Who we are ...

In the picturesque part of the south-east Moravia called "kyjovské Dolňácko" lies a village of Svatobořice-Mistřín. In wider surroundings it’s known not just for excellent wines, but especially for preserved lore.

“Slovácký Krúžek Svatobořice-Mistřín” is an association of dancers, musicians and singers, who are trying to preserve our cultural heritage of the past generations and to pass it on to other successors. Today’s base has got ca. 50 members and it’s already an umpteenth generation that has passed through it since 1947, when the group was established.

Of the yearly customs cycle of mundane or religious character the "Slovácký krúžek" is predominantly engaged in the customs of a circuit character, such as The Carol, The Easter Perambulation or The Carnival called “Fašaňk”. Traditional “Hody”, The Revel with the Chaplet, is a great feast held annually in the middle of December in jubilee of the consecration of the local church.

Another important activity’s been the collecting of the material both of singing and customs nature but especially of dancing nature. The effort of mapping the last mentioned sphere has culminated in publicating the VHS “Lidové Tance Ze Svatobořic- Mistřína”, where twenty-four dances and boyish games have been recorded.

What is connected with the collecting of the materials is repairing and maintenance of traditional folk costumes. The “Slovácký Krúžek” uses for their performances a variety of folk costumes: finery; summer – “dožínkový” or working ones.

The “Slovácký Krúžek” offers organizers of the cultural events variations of their performances varying in the duration of up to 120 minutes. The program could be focused on Music or Dancing according to the wishes of the organizers. A free form of performance with samples of individual folk dances and their instruction is another possibility.
